The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has launched a new training and driver licensing initiative to improve road safety and professional standards among three-wheeler drivers.The campaign was officially inaugurated today, by Public Works and Transport Minister Peng Ponea in cooperation with PassApp Technology Co Ltd.
The launch ceremony was attended by ministry officials, executives and representatives from PassApp, relevant stakeholders and approximately 300 drivers.According to the ministry, the initiative marks the first training campaign jointly organised by the General Department of Land Transport and PassApp. It is designed to provide tuk-tuk drivers with additional knowledge on traffic laws, safe driving practices and responsible road use, while preparing them to obtain legal driving licences in accordance with existing regulations.
Speaking at the event, Ponea said the government has a clear vision for addressing road traffic accidents and is implementing measures aimed at reducing road fatalities by 50% between 2021 and 2030, in line with Cambodia’s National Decade of Action for Road Safety Plan.
He stressed that the campaign forms part of broader national efforts to enhance road safety and encourage tuk-tuk drivers, who play an important role in Cambodia’s transport system, to operate with greater professionalism, responsibility and concern for passenger safety.He expressed confidence that the training would strengthen drivers’ understanding of the Law on Road Traffic and promote a stronger sense of responsibility among road users.
He also urged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the programme in their daily work and share it with family members, friends and communities to help foster a safer road culture across the country.
