The construction of the Dei Edth–Thmar Kor Mekong Bridge in Kandal province has reached 50.8% completion as of mid-May, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. The bridge project officially broke ground on June 7, 2023, alongside the Phnom Penh–Bavet Expressway project, under the presidency of Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and current Senate President of Cambodia, and Wang Wentian, Ambassador of China to Cambodia.The project is being implemented under a 48-month construction period, with completion scheduled in 2028. The project is located in Kandal province and spans the Mekong River. On the western bank, the bridge connects Dei Edth commune with Xi Jinping Boulevard, also known as Ring Road No 3, and National Road No 1. On the eastern bank, it links Thmar Kor commune to the planned Phnom Penh–Bavet Expressway.The entire project stretches approximately 3.7 kilometres and includes the main river bridge, elevated bridge sections, connecting roads, drainage systems and related engineering works. The Mekong River bridge itself measures 1,600 metres in length and 26 metres in width. It will feature lanes for vehicles, motorcycle and pedestrian walkways. The structure will also include three navigation channels for river traffic, each designed with a clearance width of 110 metres and a vertical clearance height of 15 metres to ensure safe passage for vessels.
