Synopsis: Ministry of Public Works and Transport aims to reduce the rate of road crashes on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway. The Phnom Penh–Preah Sihanouk Expressway Company announced on Monday that it will test laser equipment on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway to raise the alertness of motorists driving at night. In a company’s statement, it said it aims to boost road safety and prevent road crashes caused by driver fatigue at night. The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway Company will install laser light devices along the road designed to help refresh drivers’ alertness, reduce fatigue, and improve caution during nighttime driving. The devices emit green laser beams during the night at an upward angle of 45 degrees, opposite to the direction of traffic. The laser can project light over a distance of 4 to 5 kilometres. It is important to note that the installation of these devices does not pose any negative impact on drivers, it said. Instead, it also contributes to beautifying the roadway. The Phnom Penh–Sihanoukville Expressway Company will begin testing the laser light devices today at kilometre markers K77+990, K113+700, and K115+750.
