The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) launched here on Wednesday the Port Electronic Data Exchange (Port EDI) System at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) and Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) aiming to improve effectiveness, efficiency, transparency and cost-saving. The soft launch of Port EDI System was held under the presidency of H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Mikami Masahiro, and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Chief Representative Ms. Kamei Haruko as well as 200 officials from relevant MPWT ministries and institutions. “Port EDI system is to help the private sector to avoid hassle, reduce the use of paperwork and time to request when ships enter and leave Cambodia,” said H.E. Sun Chanthol in the event. The Japan-financed Port EDI System is a large-scale modernisation of the control of navigation in and out of Cambodia by switching from manual work to working online with the help of JICA. H.E. Ambassador Mikami Masahiro said the Port EDI System will support logistics system in Cambodia, increasing quantity of goods throughput, and developing the country’s economy. Cambodian government reached an agreement for a US$12 million grant in February 2019 to implement the Port EDI project.
