The Ministry of Public Works and Transport will soon launch a programme that will enable officials to inspect road construction via mobile communication platform. Named the Road CARE Supervision, it is part of the ROAD CARE Mobile App that the ministry has launched as a mobile communication platform enabling the Cambodian road users to directly report major potholes and damaged roads to authorities. The Road CARE Supervision is under development and authorities are preparing a “detailed design of information and data management website” for the road quality control function. Meanwhile, Thou Samnang, Deputy Director-General of the General Department of Technology at the ministry, held a meeting to review the progress of the development of the app. Samnang said, “The purpose of the meeting was to exchange views as well as provide additional inputs to the development of the Road CARE Supervision before its official launch.” The ROAD CARE Supervision is a new feature in the ROAD CARE Mobile App that enables ministry leaders to monitor road quality control through construction reports, quality control reports and evaluation of construction work reports in order to make the work more efficient, transparent, strengthen the quality of the road to be strong, durable and reduce the cost of repair and maintenance. The move was made as the ministry has urged contracted firms throughout the country to build standard and quality roads.The ministry also formed working groups tasked to inspect the road construction sites with tests for quality with standard experiment tools. Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol has warned earlier that if companies that won contracts for road construction fall short of constructing quality roads, they will be blacklisted from operating.
