PHNOM PENH: Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Secretary-General of the Disability Action Council, Mr. Em Chan Makara said that the government does not yet have a law to allow the use of license plates number for “person with disabilities” and ask the vehicle owner who is using this license plate to make the license plate correctly. Em Chan Makara's reaction this time came after a picture was posted on social media of the owner of an MAZDA2 car with a license plate that read "Person with Disabilities" with the word Disability below. He wrote: "As the person in charge of the disability sector, I would like to confirm that the Royal Government or the relevant ministries in the field of disability do not yet have a law allowing the use of license plates number for" persons with disabilities "as shown in the picture below. Please, car owners, go and make the license plate correctly, avoid fines and make charges against the relevant units. Please separate between license plates and parking permits for person with disabilities. Ministry of Public Works spokesman Kong Vimean told EAC News that such number plates were illegal and that the Ministry of Public Works was now searching for the car's owner. He said: "Now we have not done or have any permission, but someone came out and do like this! It the same as some people that made their own license plate, this tycoon, that tycoon, the name of this pagoda, the name of that pagoda, they are all wrong. Often, the ministry has issued a notice to all members of the public regarding the proper use of license plates and registration of license plates." He told the car owner to remove the illegal license plate and go to register the correct license plate to avoid any penalty when the authorities catch. So far, the government has allowed person with disabilities to have a driver's license, however, the use of license plates number that read "person with disabilities" is not allowed.
