Minister of Public Works and Transport, Sun Chanthol, called for every vehicle owner to have proper licences and pay the necessary taxes. On March 22, Senior Minister Chanthol led a working group of the Ministry to inspect vehicles on National Road No. 1 in Phnom Penh with the participation of Ministry leaders, Deputy Commissioner of the National Police General Him Yan, professionals from the Ministry of Interior, professional officers of the General Department of Land Transport and the relevant professional police officers. The purpose of the inspection was to check the accuracy of the license plate by scanning the QR CODE on the license plate and entering the license plate information into a program organized by the Ministry of Information Technology. Public Works and Transport in collaboration with the National Police Commissioner, the Ministry of Interior and the General Department of Customs. While speaking to local news, the Senior Minister emphasized that all vehicle IDs registered with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport have been shared and authorized by the National Police Commissioner and the General Department of Customs and Excise. The Excise Department then uses the records to facilitate the inspection of fake car license plates and to help prevent tax evasion. Senior Minister Chanthol noted the effectiveness of using this modern technology system to help prevent forgery of license plates.
