Cambodian Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Sun Chanthol met with a number of dignitaries, on the sidelines of the 81st Annual Session of the UNECE’s Inland Transport Committee in Geneva, Switzerland on Feb. 19-22, 2019.
According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, those dignitaries include the United Nations Undersecretary in Charge of the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) H.E. Ms Olga Algayerova, Chairman of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee H.E. Mr. Kristof Schockaert, the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety H.E. Jean Todt, and Director, Sustainable Transport Division of UNECE Mr. Yuwei Li.
H.E. Senior Minister explained to them the Royal Government’s policy and latest developments in Cambodia, particularly in the fields of transport and connectivity. He also sought them for assistance in the area of road safety to help Cambodia in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, and in training Cambodian officials on the United Nations Inland Transport (road, rail and water way) Agreements and Conventions as well as preparation for acceding to these agreements and conventions.
Besides, H.E. Sun Chanthol has also met with H.E. Dr. Bounchanh Sinthavong, Minister of Public Works and Transport of Laos and H.E. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Minister of Transport of Thailand to discuss the upcoming 7th Meeting of the Joint Committee for the GMS Cross-Border Transport Facilitation Agreement (CBTA JCM) and related meetings to be held on Mar. 12-13, 2019 in Siem Reap-Angkor, Kingdom of Cambodia. He further urged the Thai counterpart to accelerate work for signing the Cambodia-Thailand Cross-Border Rail Agreement so that both countries could be benefited from the GMS CBTA’s Early Harvest Implementation.
