The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport developed and rehabilitated nearly 30 km of canals in the province to avoid flooding during the 2022 rainy season.
Borey Vongsanith, Director of the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport, said in an interview with the national radio that Preah Sihanouk is prone to flooding due to the congestion in the sewers and canals caused by current city growth. The Director stated that the authorities have made efforts to find some better solutions, including rehabilitation of sewer system clogged accumulated garbage, repairing damaged sewer system and the installation of some new sewer system.
“We have started to restore five canals with a total length of 27 kilometres to avoid flooding in Preah Sihanouk province,” said Vongsanith, “as a result, last year there was a lot of rain, but the flooding was reduced.”
