Cambodian Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Sun Chanthol attended the 1st ASEAN-ROK Infrastructure Ministers’ Meeting in Seoul, the Republic of Korea (ROK) yesterday. According to a news release of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the meeting was chaired by H.E. Ms. Kim Hyun Mee, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of ROK. H.E. Sun Chanthol was optimistic that the meeting will boost stronger cooperation in infrastructure development between the ASEAN countries and ROK. H.E. Senior Minister reported the meeting on Cambodia’s more recent accomplishments in implementing the initiatives on “smart city” and the “infrastructure for sustainability” in the transition from the 3rd to 4th industrial revolution. He highlighted Cambodia’s construction and development of efficient road networks, freshwater ports, deep seaports, airports and the railways, connecting the capital city of Phnom Panh with Thailand’s railway system and to the deep seaports, and briefed the group on the development projects that include the construction of an expressway from Phnom Penh to the deep seaport of Sihanoukville, and the new container port with a depth of 14.5 metres, all in keeping with the expanding Asia highway vision connecting Thailand to Phnom Penh and the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025. H.E. Sun Chanthol highlighted Cambodia’s economic development with an annual growth rate of 7 percent thanks to the country’s peace and political stability, moving the country from a low income to a lower middle-income country. He took the opportunity to express his deep appreciation to the people and the Government of ROK for extending their support in improving Cambodia’s infrastructure and for having contributed to the development of master plans for the inland waterway transport, railways network and road safety.
