In a meeting with China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the direction of developing Cambodia's railway system to cover the whole country.
This statement was made during a courtesy meeting between His Excellency Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Wang Jianping, Chairman of the Board of Directors of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), on the "Third Belt and Road" in Beijing, People's Republic of China on the morning of October 17, 2023.
Mr. Wan Jianping thanked the Prime Minister for giving him and his colleagues the opportunity to pay a courtesy visit, as well as to support and encourage the company's investment in Cambodia in the past.
On that occasion, the Chairman of the Board also informed the Prime Minister about the progress of the company in Cambodia, as of now, CRCC has a total investment of 53 projects with a capital of about $5.3 billion. For the future direction, the company also plans to invest in three more major projects, including: (1) the e-government data management center, (2) the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap and Phnom Penh-Poipet railway project, and (3) water supply project in provinces along the Mekong River.
In response to this, the Prime Minister welcomed the meeting with the management team of CRCC on this occasion and expressed gratitude and supported the company's investment projects in Cambodia, especially investment in water supply and railway systems as this is an important part of strengthening the logistics sector and encouraging the expansion of investment in other areas where the company has experience and capabilities.
Regarding the development of the railway system to cover the whole country, the Prime Minister emphasized two goals: (1) the feasibility study on the repair and modernization of the existing railway and (2) the study on the railway system from Phnom Penh-Bavet and Poipet-Siem Reap, as well as the connection to the Vietnamese border via Steung Treng and Mondulkiri provinces.
