HE Sun Chanthol, First Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, chaired a meeting with the inter-ministerial committee for the Light Rail Transit Development Project (LRT) connecting Siem Reap Angkor International Airport to Siem Reap town with China Metro Group on December 26, 2023. The meeting was held to promote the implementation of the light rail transit development project connecting Siem Reap Angkor International Airport to Siem Reap town in accordance with the recommendation of the Prime Minister in response to the growth of tourists and transportation services so as to avoid traffic congestion from the airport to Siem Reap town, while Siem Reap Angkor International Airport officially started its operation on November 16, 2023. In addition, there is a serious discussion on the study of urban light rail transit to avoid any disturbance in the Angkor area, archeological sites, or protected areas determined by the Apsara Authority. Please be informed that the project to build a light rail line from Siem Reap Angkor International Airport to Siem Reap town is to respond to the increase in tourists and transportation services when the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport will start to receive tourists directly from other countries to visit Cambodia, mainly Siem Reap, a province rich in temples, ancient sites, and natural resorts.
