The Choeung Ek Wastewater Treatment Plant project, under the grant cooperation of the Government of Japan in Sangkat Chak Angre Krom, Khan Meanchey, has been completed 100% with a capacity of treating 5,000 cubic metres of water per day.
The Department of Public Works and Transport of Phnom Penh said that the technical working group is meeting to launch a 24-hour test run at the wastewater treatment plant. The Choeung Ek Wastewater Treatment Plant held its ground-breaking ceremony on February 22, 2022.
Director of the Department of Public Works and Transport of Phnom Penh Sam Piseth said the treatment plant will have the capacity to pump 468 cubic meters per hour to send the waste water to the Boeung Trabek Pumping Station.
Piseth added that a road was built to facilitate the4 maintenance of the canal and of the sewer pipe to the Choeung Ek Wastewater Treatment Plant. The road runs from Street 271 to Neak Oknha Moha Pheakdey Blvd.
The Director said that a sewage treatment plant with the capacity of treating 5,000 cubic metres of water per day will be built on a three-hectare plot of land. The land is part of a 19-hecatre plot which was appointed by the government to be for the construction of Choeung Ek Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project will also include the construction of a sludge treatment facility.
Director Piseth confirmed that the project of construction of Choeung Ek Wastewater Treatment Plant is a cooperation between Cambodia and Japan. It is funded by a JICA
