The Ministry of Public Works and Transport sold 186,612 personalised licence plates and collected a whopping sum of over $61 million. The Ministry spokesman Phal Chandara told Khmer Times yesterday that the revenue for special licence plates was USD $46,578,158 and the revenue for personal plates was $14,978,151. He added that in the past, people wanted to get license plates labelled Phnom Penh, even if they were from other provinces. “These new licence plates are attractive to the people of Cambodia, and not just for the rich or powerful, but most people like them and support them because they are modern,“ said Chandara. He also said that the ministry is proud to have raised this money, especially during the difficult times bought on by Covid-19, and will continue to do so into the future. The profits generated from selling the special plates will be added to the national budget. Personalised plates are printed with “Kampuchea” in Khmer script at the top and “Cambodia” in English at the bottom. A combination of one to eight Latin numbers or letters are printed in the middle. Each personalised licence plate also has a QR Code on the right side that confirms the vehicle’s information.
